Random Thoughts

Every blog I read has a Random Thoughts day, and I feel the pressure to follow. (Ok, so not really pressure, just seems like an easy way to fill this blog spot for your reading enjoyment.:)

I love listening to music. This is not a secret. I openly admit my addiction to fabulous instrumentation and soulful lyrics to everyone. I am constantly seeking new tunes to move me, while rediscovering old ones that still get my heart pumping and my feet dancing. I honestly have it playing all the time. (I'm, admittedly, listening to a really good blues mix now as I'm writing this. Nothing like a little Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, Johnny Hooker and Albert King to get the thoughts mellow and the mind relaxed.)
My love of music is something that I also encourage in my children. I keep CD's in the car they can choose from ranging from Bible Hymns for Kids to Sheryl Crow. (Kadence loves her some 'Can't Cry Anymore'.) It's amusing to see how her mood affects her choice. It also encourages me to keep doing what I'm doing too. Whether is blasting the home theater while we dance around in our socks and get down, or singing soulfully in the car, I want my kids to know that there is a song to go with that. We can stop doing dishes and run to the living room to crank up that jam, or change the station because that song is soooo boring.
I know my opinion in music is partial, even so, a humble one. But just being so open in my love for this age old art is allowing my kids to find their voice. If you don't believe me, just ask Peanut to sing her favorite song. ;)

March Madness

Madness is a constant around here, but with the weather warming up, and spring break this month, March has been a controlled chaos here. We enjoyed most of spring break taking a tour of the parks we frequent, having a picnic and feeding the duck-ducks at every one. We usually skip this pleasure on most visits due to time constraints, but this week, I indulged the kids and we made a day out of it every time. We also did some spring cleaning, (by we I mean, of course, me) and I'm doing my very best to make clean-up time fun. This way, maybe I can keep some of the day to day clutter in check. Still, training my kids to pick up after themselves does little to keep them from doing ornery, albeit, cute antics.

Peanut has developed a love for teaching. Everyday after school she changes into her heels and reads stories to her class. The reading is followed by her telling her class to put bubbles in their mouth,(which is what the teacher does in her class when they need to be quite) and sending a few boys to Time-Out. It's adorable.
I have been spending lots of one-on-one time with the Cash Man. He has been especially rowdy this past week, so it's a combination of keeping him occupied and keeping a constant eye on him. Additionally, I have exercised my patience within an inch of my sanity with the little booger. Oh!! He got his hair cut too!! It's still long, and shaggy, and in his eyes, but he looks more like a boy than a renegade. Somewhat. One of our bonding experiences this week was baking. Andrew is pretty good in the kitchen and we cook together often, but baking brownies was the ultimate for him. After we got them in oven, I told my petite chef he could lick the bowl. So, he did. Eagerly.

Kadence and I also had a wonderful girls day out this week. The boys stayed home, watching the Big 12 and we went for lunch and some shopping. We had them most wonderful day and I can't believe how amazing Ms. Peanut is growing up to be. She has impeccable sense of style and tells the best jokes to boot. She makes me so proud everyday!!

I was greeted by this guy this morning.

"Have you been putting your make-up on this morning, Andrew?"
"Why, of course. Don't I look pretty, mom?"
After a half-hearted scolding, I informed him that eyeliner goes in the eye lids. Then, I send him to clean it off. Andrew went into the bathroom, put in sissy's pink leopard head-band and went to work. He cleaned it all off by himself. And looked fabulous doing it!!

I'm really looking forward to returning back to work next week. All this entertainment really deserves to be shared. :)
